Student Athletes Help Remove Holiday Decor in Public Service Event

The winter wonderland may just be arriving, but it's time to un-deck the halls, and Southbridge Public Schools student athletes took part in a community service event Sunday, Jan. 14, helping to do just that.

Student athletes took part in their first athletics department community service event of the year, with football, track & field, tennis and girls' basketball students helping Southbridge Holiday Visions collect festive decor around town.

Southbridge Holiday Visions coordinates the town's annual holiday decorations, including life-size ornament displays on the town common, downtown and in other high-visibility areas. They also provided food and gloves to the 18 students, who each donated four hours of work.

"We're really proud of how our student athletes represented Southbridge Public Schools," said Athletics Director Jason Linders.

"We’re always trying to teach our student athletes to stay engaged int he community and use their athletics platform to serve others."
